The Georgia Aquarium
Let’s dive right in (pun intended) with the first stop on our Atlanta tour — The Georgia Aquarium. Whether you’re traveling with kids or are fascinated with marine biology, you can’t miss the world’s largest aquarium which is home to over 500 species.
Located in downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park, guests can easily park nearby and enjoy a stroll in the park before exploring the aquarium’s six galleries and over 70 habitats.
Guests encounter vibrant coral reefs, penguins, whales, sharks, and freshwater creatures. You can also take in a live show, 3D underwater experience, or special encounter.
The Georgia Aquarium’s main goal is to entertain and educate visitors while preserving the ocean and its many inhabitants. Call for tickets and availability.
Piedmont Park
One of Atlanta’s many nicknames is the City of Trees thanks to its picturesque natural parks, one of which is a must-see stop on your trip.
Piedmont Park is located between the Virginia-Highland neighborhood and Atlanta’s Midtown. This 189-acre urban park is a cultural hub for the city and used as a recreational green space.
On any given day visitors will spot young athletes playing football or baseball. Countless picnic areas and playgrounds are scattered across the lush green landscape.
Guests also have access to tennis courts and the Lake Clara Meer dock. Buildings in Piedmont Park include the Greystone and Magnolia Hall. Don’t be surprised if you see a wedding or other special event taking place here.
Piedmont Park clashes two worlds by combining natural beauty on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of midtown Atlanta.
High Museum of Art
If there’s one thing Atlanta is most well-known for, it’s a rich history. The High Museum of Art mixes classic and contemporary art in the unique backdrop of a remodeled home.
Located on picturesque Peachtree Street, the museum boasts over 14,000 pieces of art including European paintings, photography, African American art, and contemporary pieces.
Guests can enjoy guided tours and lectures before grabbing a bite to eat at one of the museum’s two cafes.
The High Museum of Art can also double as a date night spot for couples. It’s open late on Fridays and has a full-service restaurant with an extensive wine list.
Atlanta History Center
If you prefer history over art, the Atlanta History Center is another must-see spot during your Atlanta getaway.
Located in the center of Buckhead, the Atlanta History Center celebrates Georgia’s heritage and rich history. Guests can view award-winning exhibits and experience lectures and living history programs.
This historical center expands over 30 acres and is home to one of the largest history museums in America — the Atlanta History Museum. With six historic gardens and other must-see places like the Kenan Research Center and Smith Family Farm, tourists can spend an entire day exploring this location.
Are you a fan of the iconic Gone with the Wind story? You might be interested to know that the Margaret Mitchell House, which was designed in honor of the author, is also located off-site at Atlanta’s Midtown campus.
With so much to see and do in this historical area, you may want to find a great parking spot centrally located near all the action and activity.
Xocolatl Chocolate
No Atlanta getaway is complete without indulging in some delicious food and drink. The first stop on our eatery tour will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Xocolatl Chocolate was founded in 2004 by couple Elaine Read and Matt Wyandt. Their love of travel and traditional dark chocolate led them to Puerto Viejo. Here the couple learned the art of making delicious dark chocolate from cacao beans. This decadent delight requires no fillers or artificial ingredients.
Visitors love the small, quaint atmosphere of this small-batch chocolate shop. The couple uses only organic ingredients and beans sourced directly from Africa and South America.
Taste the crushed espresso-filled chocolates, jam-filled nuts, and blood orange infused treats. Xocolatl Chocolate offers one-hour tours and tastings throughout the week.
SweetWater Brewing Company
Wash down that delicious dark chocolate with a nice cold beer by visiting the SweetWater Brewing Company.
Established in 1997, the brewing company produces year-round brews as well as unpasteurized craft beers. Visitors can schedule a tour and tasting where you’ll learn about the crafting process while touring the factory and sampling the product.
Tours are free and only about 20 minutes long.
Decatur Ghost Tour
Does being spooked sound like a good time? If you love a good scare, you won’t want to miss the Decatur Ghost Tour during your Atlanta sightseeing tour.
This walking tour is held all year long and takes place in downtown Decatur. Guests embark on a journey through the historic town square, shops, and restaurants while tour guides try to connect with local spirits and entities.
Many of Atlanta’s local spots are reportedly home to ghosts and spirits. The Decatur tour ends at one of the oldest homes in Atlanta which is rumored to be haunted.
Other stops on your ghost tour include an old train depot and cemetery. The entire tour is about a mile and most of the walking is done on paved sidewalks.
Park closeby and enjoy an evening of frightful fun!
