Find parking near Turning Basin

Turning Basin in downtown Richmond sits along the Riverfront Canal Walk and serves as the main departure point for narrated canal boat cruises that explore the historic James River and Kanawha Canal. This waterfront landmark offers scenic views of the canal, nearby bridges, and the surrounding Shockoe Slip district, making it a pleasant stop for strolls, photos, and learning about Richmond’s transportation history. Because it is set close to the Downtown Expressway and major surface streets, traffic in the immediate area can be steady at peak commuter times and when nearby offices and attractions are busy.

Parking near Turning Basin can be competitive, especially on weekdays and during popular cruising hours, so planning your parking in advance helps reduce circling for spots and keeps your visit stress free. Street parking in the surrounding blocks is typically limited in duration and may be metered or time restricted, and spaces can fill quickly due to nearby offices, restaurants, and riverfront attractions. Visitors should allow extra time to navigate one-way streets and expressway ramps, pay close attention to posted signs about hours and enforcement, and always check current local rules and official resources before finalizing their trip.
