ParkMobile’s commitment to greener, pedestrian-friendly urban spaces

Park(ing) Day 2024, happening from September 20-22, is more than just a creative event—it’s a powerful statement on how we can reimagine urban spaces. Originally founded in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco-based design studio, Park(ing) Day encourages artists, citizens, and activists worldwide to transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks and art installations. What started as a single creative act of urban activism has blossomed into a global movement, with cities across the world participating in reclaiming urban spaces for pedestrians, nature, and creativity.

This year’s theme, in partnership with the Parking Reform Network, focuses on “Parking Reform Activism,” spotlighting the importance of street reclamation and rethinking how our cities are designed post-pandemic. Cities from San Antonio to Philadelphia will transform parking spots into vibrant spaces filled with greenery, art, and community engagement.

Here are a few notable locations celebrating Park(ing) Day:

  • San Antonio, Texas: Downtown San Antonio will host multiple installations, reimagining urban spaces with creative public parklets.
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: The city will transform metered parking spaces into parks with over 25 installations for art, relaxation, and socializing.
  • Washington, DC: The event will feature several parklets across the city, encouraging residents to rethink urban spaces.
  • Eugene, Oregon: The city will also join the celebration, adding parklets to public spaces in downtown Eugene.
