The ParkNYC mobile app will allow customers to use their mobile devices to easily pay for parking at all on-street parking meters
New York, NY – December 19, 2016— ParkMobile, LLC and The New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) announced today a program that now allows motorists to pay for parking using their mobile phones at on-street metered spaces throughout New York City. Customers using the “ParkNYC” app can pay for parking with their smartphones using a free mobile application available for iPhone and Android. In addition, customers can pay via web, including mobile web, at ParkNYC.org or by calling the toll-free number listed on the ParkNYC decals on the meters.
The program is being rolled out in multiple phases throughout all the boroughs over the coming months. The service will be available in all boroughs to allow motorists to pay for parking using their mobile phones at all 85,000+ on-street metered spaces throughout New York City. Each of the 14,000 NYC parking pay stations will have decals affixed to them in addition to street signage driving awareness and indicating to motorists the service is available. Currently, during the first phase, the service is available in midtown Manhattan.
The ParkNYC app functions similarly to ParkMobile’s mobile payment system and is simple to use. Customers may register online at ParkNYC.org or download the mobile app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once registered, customers can use the mobile app, web, or the toll-free number to pay for parking. Enforcement officers will be able to see that a motorist has paid for parking using a wireless handheld device. Mobile app users may also choose to receive customizable reminders prior to expiration of their parking session. Time limits on meters as well as all parking rules and regulations still apply, and the app will not allow users to purchase more time than allotted by the meters. The ParkNYC mobile payment solution is an added payment option and is intended to complement existing parking payment options. All existing forms of payment (credit and debit cards, coins) are still valid for meter use.
New York City is joining a growing trend among cities, universities, and transit authorities to bring mobile parking services to its residents and visitors. By providing drivers with an easier and more convenient way to find, pay for, and extend parking, the City is seeking to significantly reduce the hassle of parking and improve the overall traffic, commute and parking experience. Customers will no longer have to walk back and forth to a pay station, wait in line to pay for parking, or search for coins, cash, or credit cards. In addition, the ParkNYC technology allows consumers to add time remotely, eliminating the need to predict the length of stay or return to feed the meter.
“With ParkNYC, drivers no longer have to scramble for change or even walk to a Muni-Meter to get a receipt for their dashboard,” said DOT Commissioner, Polly Trottenberg. “We are proud to have partnered with ParkMobile on this effort. With no added fees, mobile alerts that let you know when your parking session is ending, and the ability to extend a session without returning to your car, ParkNYC offers a great convenience to New York drivers, and we are excited that it will be available at every metered parking space Citywide by the end of next summer.”
The NYC Department of Transportation and the Mayor’s Office developed the app in collaboration with ParkMobile, the leading provider of on-demand and prepaid mobile payments for on- and off-street parking. Serving over 2,000 locations, including municipalities, universities, commercial operators, and transit facilities throughout the country, Atlanta-based ParkMobile is the largest provider of mobile payments for on and off-street parking and mobility-related services in the US. “We are pleased to partner with New York City to deliver a faster, easier and more convenient way to park. Now drivers in New York City will be able to take advantage of our technology, which enhances the parking experience by eliminating the need to carry coins, swipe a card, print a ticket, or run back to the meter to add time,” said Jon Ziglar, CEO of ParkMobile. “New York joins the over 200 cities and 5 million people nationwide that use ParkMobile and we look forward to working with the NYC Department of Transportation to further innovate and expand convenience for people in the largest parking market in North America.”
