ParkMobile and the City of Rochester are pleased to announce a partnership that will soon allow drivers in Rochester to use their mobile devices to pay for parking.

Accessing the service is easy via the ParkMobile app, which is available to download free on Apple and Android devices. Users can also pay online at parkmobile.io.

Final testing and the application of ParkMobile decals to nearly 1,500 of eligible meters will be complete in the coming days with a public launch scheduled for July 12.

Once live, ParkMobile pay zones will appear in the app and will also be printed on the green ParkMobile decal placed on eligible meters. All parking rules, such as maximum time limits, are unchanged and remain in effect. Users will gain several conveniences, including text or push notifications when purchased time is about to expire.

ParkMobile, the leading provider of smart parking and mobility solutions in the US, provides pay-by-phone coverage in nearby Minneapolis and other major cities across the country including New York City, Chicago and Washington DC.

According to Rochester Transit and Parking Manager Tony Knauer, this roll-out is long in the planning. “Convenient parking contributes to a vibrant and healthy downtown. That is why we are pleased to be introducing this new option,” Knauer said. “Paying by smartphone has been very popular in other cities, and has also been shown to municipal revenue. It’s a win-win.”

More details are available on the City’s parking website: www.rochesterparking.com.
