PETERSBURG, FL (May 6, 2016) —ParkMobile, LLC and the City of St. Petersburg announced today a plan to introduce exciting new enhancements to the ParkMobile mobile payments program. Beginning May 1, the new Resident Discount Program will allow registered St. Pete residents to use the app to pay for parking in the city without having to pay a convenience fee of 0.35 cents per transaction. ParkMobile’s mobile payments solution is currently offered in over 1,800 on-street parking spaces throughout the city and will soon be available in all public parking city-owned surface lots.

To sign up for the Resident Discount Program, residents with a ParkMobile account must submit 2 out of 3 of the following documents referencing a St. Petersburg address to StPeteResidents@ParkMobileglobal.com; a valid photo ID, valid vehicle registration, or valid proof of residency. Once residency documents have been approved, an email will be sent within 3 business days confirming the discount has been applied to the resident’s account.

Another enhancement to the program includes an increase to the on-street parking duration from 2-3 hours to a 6-hour max for an additional charge. This enhancement is due to the many requests by citizens and customers who want to enjoy the downtown amenities for an extended period of time and still be able to utilize on-street parking spaces.  As called for in the recently conducted parking study, additional time is offered at a premium rate so that turnover and availability is protected while offering customers additional options and increased flexibility.

Additionally, residents using ParkMobile may donate through the app to the St. Pete “Power of Change” Donation program benefitting the homeless. Anyone wishing to contribute to the program may use Zone 2000 in the app to choose their level of giving, with no ParkMobile transaction fee. The initiative, which began in 2014, utilizes repurposed parking meters as a means to raise awareness about homelessness and to give people the option of donating their spare change through the yellow meters located throughout downtown.  Now through the ParkMobile app, anyone can donate at similar or higher levels if they so choose in a convenient manner right on their mobile device.

ParkMobile’s mobile payments system is very simple and easy to use. Customers first must register by downloading the mobile app in their phone’s app store or online at www.parkmobile.io. Once registered, they may use the mobile app, internet, or the toll-free number listed on signage to pay for parking. After setting up their account, customers can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone. Mobile app users may also choose to receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior to their parking session expiring, which helps people keep track of time and avoid parking citations.
